It's made from a mashbill of malted and unmalted Irish barley, and obviously distilled in a pot still - the whiskey wasn't distilled by Glendalough, though it was distilled to their specification by an unnamed distillery.

It's matured in bourbon casks and then finished for a year in Irish virgin oak casks, made from sustainably felled year old trees from the forests surrounding the distillery.

Nose: Raw malt aromas, with tannic oak, creamy vanilla notes and some oak char, with a wave of cinnamon spice.

Palate: Crystallised ginger and candied citrus, banana custard and maple syrup, leading into green oak and dried herbs. Finish: Aromatic clove and more creamy vanilla, alongside some red berries and toasted oak.

Fortunately I braved it out. Glendalough has just a little bit of the harshness, but also a hint of sweet honey? No burn on the throat at the end.

If you can get over the initial sniff you will be very pleased! Flavourful and sweet, this easy-drinking whiskey is distinctly Irish.
